The Independent Restaurant Coalition Needs Your Help

Independent restaurants directly employ 11 million workers and indirectly provide jobs to 5 million more up and down the supply chain. And they contribute $760 billion to the economy annually. But small, local eateries are so much more than numbers on a sheet of paper—these members of our restaurant community are the places where we make some of our favorite memories.

That’s why Sam Tell believes it’s crucial that everyone in the foodservice industry fully supports the Independent Restaurant Coalition’s push to pass the Restaurants Act. The act establishes a $120 billion Restaurant Revitalization Fund, which will help independent restaurants combat the challenges caused by COVID-19. Picnics Are Picking Up Across The Restaurant Industry

Though picnicking in NYC has always been a major part of life, the summer of 2020 has made socially distanced, outdoor dining much more than merely a trendy thing to do. Luckily, the island of Manhattan and the surrounding boroughs all boast expansive parks and other outdoor spaces that call on eaters to lay down a blanket and enjoy an al fresco meal.

And now restaurants are expanding their takeout and pick-up services to include containers and even entire meal kits dedicated to picnics. Read our latest blog to learn about two particular restaurants that are fully capable of supplying you with everything you need for a picture-perfect picnic, and also check out our list of the best parks in the city to host your outdoor meal.

Three Restaurants Sling To-Go Cocktails

As the pandemic forced the closure of dining rooms across the tri-state region, restaurant proprietors, chefs, staff, and suppliers banded together to devise ways to keep business afloat while we all weathered the storm. Luckily, help arrived in the form of a state mandate allowing bars and restaurants to make cocktails a part of their delivery and to-go menus. This action helped to spark a rise in takeout and delivery orders.

Follow the story of how three restaurants faced the challenges and found innovative solutions to continue serving bottom-line bolstering drinks. From utilizing specialty bar supplies to embracing the difficult situation as a new business opportunity, the restaurants—Coach Meeting House on Long Island, and the Upper West Side’s Cibo e Vino and Pier i Café in Riverside Park—share their stories in Sam Tell’s latest blog, here.
